8 years ago, I learned lessons that still shape how I plan and create today.

Let’s rewind a bit—eight + years ago, when I was just starting out in the world of weddings, I attended a workshop that would change everything for me. I didn’t fully know it at the time, but spending that week with Steve and Jamie of Sinclair & Moore became a turning point in my career and heart.

Did you know Steve’s favorite flower is a field-grown garden rose? (Pro tip from the week: get a wholesale license to help offset floral costs!) Little things like that stayed with me… but it was the bigger picture that shaped me most.

While I won’t share the exact vendors or secret supply sources (some things are better experienced firsthand!), I’ll say this: if you ever have the chance to attend one of their workshops—now held in California—go. It’s that special.

It was one of those rare experiences that leaves a permanent mark—in the best way.

I was new to the industry, unsure of what exactly I wanted my business to be, but I knew I was drawn to beauty, design, and meaningful moments. What I learned during that workshop helped me shape the foundation of what would eventually become my way of doing things—and it’s a week I still think about often.

Today, I’m sharing some of the incredible photos from that week along with a few of the takeaways that continue to guide me in my work and business.

The Beauty of That Week (and the People Behind It)

Steve and Jamie were everything you’d hope for in mentors—humble, incredibly gifted, and wildly generous.

It was clear that Steve is a man of strong faith and values, and he carries those principles into how he runs his business. I really respect that and try to do the same in my own life—at home and in my work.

One evening, they invited us into their home. I remember complimenting their dining room—the cozy, intentional atmosphere, the perfectly set table, the gorgeous wood boards and cake plates, the way every little element felt thoughtful. I casually mentioned how much I loved the paint color on their Anthropologie armoire they painted from raw wood that was displaying gorgeous cake plates by the dozen… and not even 10 minutes later, Steve came downstairs with the actual paint can and handed it to me so I could take the color home to Texas with me.

That moment stuck with me. It was a small thing, but also everything. It showed me what true hospitality looks like—not just in events, but in life. Every little detail mattered. From the table setting to the silverware to the beautifully simple meal—it all felt like love made visible.

What That Week Taught Me as a New Planner

At the time, I thought I might want to do it all—florals, design, coordination, styling, hosting. But after watching Steve and Jamie work with such clarity and purpose, I walked away with something unexpected:

I didn’t want to do everything. I wanted to do one thing really, really well.

I realized I wasn’t meant to be a florist—I was meant to be a planner and designer. And not just any planner… I wanted to be one who led with heart, refined taste, and intentional beauty. One who made every detail feel thoughtful and personal.

Steve said something I’ll never forget: “If you try to do everything, everything will just be good… not great.”

That line became a filter for so many decisions I made in those early years of building my business—and honestly, it still is.

I also smiled at another nugget he shared: “IKEA + expensive = AWESOME.” A fun reminder that thoughtful design doesn’t always have to be over-the-top to feel luxurious.

Looking Back Now

I can’t believe it’s been eight + years. That week gave me more than technical knowledge—it gave me a vision. It helped shape the kind of experience I wanted to create for my clients and the kind of brand I wanted to build.

And now, years later, I finally feel like I’m stepping into that with full confidence.

I’m so excited to share these photos from that special week (some of my favorites ever), and I hope they inspire you the same way that week inspired me. Whether you’re planning your wedding, building your dream career, or simply craving more beauty and intention in your life—you’re so welcome here. Funny how life works—Steve Moore now calls Dallas home too, just like me.

Jessica
